Snow Bunny Mag Contributor Dalene Scheloske
Bunny Since: November 2014
Birthday: May 31, 1985 (Gemini!)
City and state you are from: Livermore, CA. Never heard of it? Strange.
City and state you live in currently: Boise, ID
Home Mountain: Bogus Basin
Sports that you are passion about: Snowboarding, trail running, hiking, and general exploring of the great outdoors.
Brands you use for you for snowboarding: I’m still riding my original set-up that was purchased for me 2 years ago. It was a gift and I love it, therefore, the brands are irrelevant.
The girliest thing in my pack is: Call me a minimalist, but I really don’t have much girly stuff in my pack. Depending on the time of the month, I suppose that could change though. Chapstick, bordering on lipgloss?
My favorite song on my iPod right now is: Hounds of Love, by Kate Bush.
I started snowboarding when: I was 26 years old.
When I’m done after a day of skiing/snowboarding I crave: burgers and beer! Like a cave-man.
Most memorable day on my snowboard: It was this year, believe it or not! We have had such little snow, and the conditions have not been great, but I had the best day of my life riding with 4 lady friends out at Tamarack a few weeks ago. When we got to the resort, the visibility was crap and the snow was icy-crust, but we persevered and were rewarded! After making friends with the bartender, we were pleased to see the sun won the battle with the clouds and we had the best time ever. So much laughing, singing, selfie-taking, and shredding!
I would describe myself as: an eternal optimist.
The person that inspires me most is: John Muir (swoon!).
A day of skiing/riding with the girls is: Good for the soul.
I live by the rule/philosophy of: Ellie Goulding’s, “Anything can happen.” Think about it. It will change your life.
My favorite quote: “I had been my whole life a bell, and never knew it until at that moment I was lifted and struck.”
― Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Basically, anything Annie Dillard has written.
On a bad day I pick myself up by: Imagining someone reading my story. What would make it more exciting, more heroic? That is what I must do, because my story can’t be boring.
My favorite way to spend a day is: Embracing what it has given me. Contentment in all conditions is the key to happiness. I am really working on this!
If I’m not skiing/snowboarding you will usually find me doing this: Reading, writing, and daydreaming about my next adventure.
My day job is: A sales/marketing role, which allows me to talk with all sorts of different people everyday, and I love that aspect of it. I basically make friends with strangers and hope that they will choose to work with my company when the need arises. And in the meantime, we get to share our stories.
My family: My mom and dad, 2 crazy-cool sisters, my sweet baby bro, and my amazing friends across the world. I am truly blessed in the ‘framily’ zone.
My mission in life is: To be love in action, live life to the fullest, with no regrets, while inspiring and encourage others to do the same.
Something most people don’t know about me is: I get embarrassed super easily. I am very outgoing, and live for the spotlight, but if things don’t go just as planned, my face will be redder than a tomato before you can say, “I was just joking!”
When you think of me – think this: Goofball with a serious mission to love others.
My favorite ski resort is: To be determined, but I just recently experienced Big Sky, and I think I am forever spoiled.
Something that I want to try but have not done yet is: Surfing! I plan to do it this spring when I make my first venture to Hawaii.
If I could choose one destination to ski/board I would head to: Hokkaido, Japan because it’s freaking Japan, and they have some amazing powder. I want to float on clouds in an exotic country. Is that too much to ask?!
One piece of wisdom that I would share with the next generation is: Time goes fast, so don’t wait to chase after your dreams. There is no secret formula that will dawn on you someday, and enlighten you to your purpose in life. Continue to seek out new challenges and know that every new experience is building you as a person…don’t be afraid of going for it!
And one fun fact about yourself: I am a struggling rap artist. Struggling, meaning that I have recorded one hit that no one knows about, but I’m still trying to get people to play my track. Cake Batter Booty will get bodies moving at your next party, I promise! Contact me 😉
