an image of skiing, ski, winter sportsI started skiing/snowboarding when I was  skiing at 5, snowboarding at 21 years old.

When I’m done after a day of skiing/snowboarding I crave a tasty brew and hardy meal to eat.

Most memorable day on my skis/snowboard was the first day putting skis on my kiddos and watching their pure joy as they took turns down the hill.

I would describe myself as  a goofball.

The  person that inspires me most is anyone who is true to themselves and pursues their passions.

A day of skiing/riding with the girls is  an absolute blast!

I live by the rule/philosophy of keep your cup of life full and drink up!

My favorite quote  “We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face. We must do that which we think we cannot. ” -Eleanor Roosevelt.

On a bad day I pick myself up by going for a run.

My favorite way to spend a day is swimming in an alpine lake on a hot summer day.

If I’m not skiing/snowboarding you will usually find me wrangling my kids.

My day job is art teacher and professional juggler of all things (AKA Mom)

an image of Flying, Airplanes, CessnaMy family includes my husband, two kiddos, and our dog.

My mission in life is to raise my kids to love life, instill confidence within them to pursue their passions and enjoy all that this amazing planet has to offer.

Something most people don’t know about me is  I’m O.C.D

My favorite ski resorts are Alyeska, AK and Grand Targhee,WY

Something that I want to try but have not done yet is float the Grand Canyon.

If I could choose one destination to ski/board I would head to do the Haute Route.

One piece of wisdom that I would share with the next generation is not to take life too seriously, take everything in stride-find your balance, it’s all in the timing of things, and most of all enjoy and take nothing for granted!

Please list any sponsors/supporters that you would like to include in your profile: My mom and dad for their never ending encouragement and my husband for his support, patience, optimism, and pushing me to do better!

Stefanie Smith recently returned to the lower 48 states after twelve years of residing and adventuring in Alaska. She earned her Master’s of Fine Arts degree at The University of Alaska-Fairbanks, where she taught ceramics in the summers. Stefanie currently teaches high school art in Boise. She continues to be enchanted by the outdoors and the challenges it provides. Her experiences within the landscape influence and inspire her own work as an artist. Stefanie looks forward to exploring much more of  her new home state of Idaho.

About Whitney Chandler

I am a Colorado native with an unfettering love for the West. I grew up riding, hiking, biking and climbing the Rocky Mountains and am looking forward to exploring what Idaho has to offer since moving here in August of 2014.
I am a recent graduate of Colorado Mountain College with a Bachelor’s in Sustainability Studies. I want to ensure that these mountains are still providing epic seasons for future generations to enjoy. While holding down jobs at Moon’s Kitchen and Java in Hyde Park, I enjoy writing about environmental issues, stories that empower women and poetry.
